A Framework for Ecosystem Services Conservation Zoning: An Integration into Land Use Planning
نویسنده
چکیده
The ecosystem services conservation zoning framework offers an alternative to current land use decision processes that present incomplete, misinformed, and unaccountable land use options and alternatives. The framework presents holistic tools to make more informed land use decisions, and begins to integrate ecosystem services into the existing polices that govern land development. The principal goal of the framework is to balance local land development and conservation planning by presenting a comprehensive, multi-faceted, multi-disciplined decision process that frames land use choices around the social, financial, and environmental utility ecosystem services provide human well being. Precision Conservation to Enhance Wildlife Benefits in Agricultural Landscapes
Agriculture is the world’s largest industry, continues to dominate human land use, and will become more intensive to meet global food demands associated with population growth. Sustainability of global agricultural systems will require strategic integration of conservation practices to protect ecosystems services, health, and productivity. Natural communities as a component of agricultural land...
متن کاملMultiple-Use Zoning Model for Private Forest Owners in Agricultural Landscapes: A Case Study
Many small-scale private forest owners increasingly focus their management on amenity functions rather than on wood production functions. This paradigm shift is an opportunity to implement novel forestry management approaches, such as forested land zoning. Forest zoning consists in separating the land base in three zones that have different management objectives: (1) conservation zones; (2) eco...
متن کاملEvaluating the potential for conservation development: biophysical, economic, and institutional perspectives.
The widespread conversion of rural land to low-density residential development poses an immediate threat to biodiversity and to the provision of ecosystem services. Given that development will continue and environmental stakes are high, analyzing alternative growth strategies is critical. Conservation development is one such strategy that has the potential to benefit ecosystems and diverse stak...

Urban growth is a dynamic and evolutionary spatial and social process that relates to the changes of urban spatial units and the transformation of people’s lifestyles and consequently demographic changes. Considering the urban development process as a function of land uses interactions, population structure and the strategic behavior of the agents involved in the urban development process (the ...
متن کاملZoning, a fundamental cornerstone of effective Marine Spatial Planning: lessons learnt from the Great Barrier Reef, Australia
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park was established to provide for conservation and ecologically sustainable multiple use of 344,400 km2 of a large marine ecosystem. Management is based on multiple use, with zoning as a fundamental component of marine spatial planning. The legislative framework, including a specific Act and Regulations, address the objectives of ecosystembased, integrated manage...
